The 25 Best Things to Do in Alpharetta, GA

The 25 Best Things to Do in Alpharetta, GA

Alpharetta packs an unusual amount into one suburb: a nationally known mixed-use district, one of metro Atlanta's best downtowns, a 12,000-seat amphitheater, miles of greenway and enough family entertainment to fill every rainy Saturday. Here's the local list, grouped by how you want to spend the day.

Start with the two districts

Avalon is the showpiece: 86 acres of shops, restaurants, a movie theater and a plaza with bocce, swings and fire pits. In winter it adds the Avalon on Ice rink, Santa visits and a tree lighting. A mile away, Downtown Alpharetta delivers the small-town version, with 50+ storefronts around Main Street, the Town Green's splash fountain, and the Saturday farmers market from April through November. The paved Alpha Loop connects the two, so park once and walk both.

Get outside

The Big Creek Greenway is Alpharetta's signature trail, about 9 miles of wide paved path along Big Creek with mountain-bike trails and a wetland boardwalk. Popular trailheads include Rock Mill Park and Haynes Bridge. For parks, Wills Park is the big one at roughly 110 acres, with three playgrounds, a pool, disc golf and the equestrian center, which hosts horse shows and a rodeo. Webb Bridge Park and North Park add lakes, trails and ballfields, Brooke Street Park tucks sculptures and a bandstand behind City Hall, and dogs get their own 1.5 acres at Waggy World Paw Park.

Catch a show

Ameris Bank Amphitheatre brings major country, rock and pop tours to a wooded 12,000-seat venue from spring through fall. For something more intimate, The Velvet Note is a true jazz listening room open Thursday through Sunday, and Matilda's Under the Pines does bring-your-own-picnic shows under the trees in the warm months. In October, the free Wire & Wood songwriters festival takes over six downtown stages, and our events calendar keeps up with the rest.

Family fun and rainy days

Topgolf and Fairway Social cover golf-adjacent fun, Main Event stacks bowling, laser tag and ropes courses, The Cooler handles ice and roller skating, and Adventure Air Sports burns off the last of the kids' energy. Grown-ups get Roaring Social's speakeasy bowling, plus escape rooms at Odyssey and Urban Escape Games.

A little history and art

The free Alpharetta and Old Milton County History Museum inside City Hall tells the city's story from Cherokee territory to tech hub. Add the downtown history walk, the arts walking tour's sculptures, the Alpharetta Arts Center on Canton Street, the 1912 Mansell House and the moving Walk of Memories veterans memorial.

Finish with a local pour

Jekyll Brewing has been Alpharetta's hometown brewery since 2013, and Currahee Brewing pours lagers and golden ales right on Main Street, with outside food welcome. For everything else, browse the full things to do directory.
